SEMH Teaching Assistant – Handsworth Wood, Birmingham
Start Date: ASAP
Daily Rate: £90 – £100 per day
Contract Type: Full-time

Elevate Supply is working with a supportive primary school in Handsworth Wood to appoint a full-time SEMH Teaching Assistant to start as soon as possible. This role involves working closely with children across KS1 and KS2 who require additional support with behaviour, emotional regulation, and accessing learning in a mainstream setting.

The Role
As an SEMH TA, you will support pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, helping to build trust, consistency, and positive behaviour strategies. You’ll work closely with the class teachers, and other support staff to create a safe and structured environment that helps children thrive both emotionally and academically.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs

• Implement strategies to support emotional regulation and behaviour management

• Assist in delivering targeted interventions to support engagement and learning

• Build positive relationships with pupils and act as a consistent role model

• Work closely with school staff and parents to monitor and support pupil progress

What We’re Looking For

• Experience supporting children with SEMH, SEND, or challenging behaviour (school-based or similar settings)

• Ability to remain calm, empathetic, and patient under pressure

• Confidence in setting clear boundaries and using positive behaviour approaches

• A proactive and resilient attitude to working in a busy, varied role

• Team player with strong communication skills
