At Twinkl Scotland, we pride ourselves on creating quality content for all ages and stages of Scottish education. From ELC, through Primary and now into Secondary, we aim to provide content that engages learners and supports Scottish educators in getting it right for every child. We are always looking for opportunities to support our users further. Therefore, we are delighted to be expanding our team to allow us to focus further on developing resources to support teachers and leaders working throughout the primary curriculum.

As a Content Writer/ Editor for Scotland,  you will be involved in planning, organising, writing and editing resources and other content for the site. You will need to have a strong, current working knowledge of the Curriculum for Excellence and experience working within a primary setting in Scotland, ideally in a leadership role. You will use your knowledge to develop and edit resources with your content being made into a finished product for Twinkl by our highly-skilled design team. The content you will be producing will mostly be adult-facing guidance resources to support Scottish school staff with policy and curriculum changes.

This role does not require you to work from the Twinkl office and meetings can be conducted via GoogleMeet/Hangouts when required. This is a remote, flexible position. Working hours can be agreed between you and your line manager to fit around your current commitments, but you should have availability for team meetings during office hours.

How you’ll spend your day:

  • producing and editing original content that is accurate, engaging and research-driven, according to a monthly target

  • sensitively responding to and giving editorial feedback around grammar and punctuation, curriculum relevance and factual accuracy, as well as working alongside colleagues to elevate a resource to an excellent standard

  • producing resources that respond to customer needs, current teaching methodologies and curriculum development

  • keeping up to date with Scottish initiatives, guidelines and updates

  • working as part of a team to identify content opportunities to further grow the product and to discuss and develop new ideas

To succeed in the role, you will:

  • be a confident practitioner in the delivery of the primary curriculum and have detailed and up-to-date knowledge of the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence;

  • be a fantastic communicator who thrives when working in a close-knit team;

  • Be able to work independently and manage your time and workload efficiently;

  • be prepared to confidently work between different IT platforms, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and G Suite;

  • understand the teaching community in Scotland,  knowing their unique pressures and current educational trends;

  • have a drive for continuous professional development.

In this role, you will learn:

  • how to ideate and create diverse, inclusive, engaging and varied resources for teachers and school leaders right through to publication;

  • how to edit content in line with Twinkl style and the Scotland team editing requirements, providing suggestions if required

  • how to work in ‘agile’ teams, allowing you to solve problems and change tasks quickly to meet deadlines;

  • how to apply your teaching experience to create new products, from ideation stage to publication;

  • how to use project tracking software as well as other in-house systems;

  • remote collaboration, how to work closely as part of a team with writers and editors across the country

  • how to develop greater commercial awareness so we can understand the needs of those we want to help

You’ll work with:

  • Scotland’s Country Manager

  • Primary Segment Manager

  • Education Content Lead

  • Production Team Leader

  • Other Content Writers & Editors

  • Designers

  • Illustrators

We're interested in anyone who meets one or more of the following requirements:

  • extensive knowledge of the Scottish Curriculum, particularly candidates with experience in a leadership role

  • at least three years primary teaching experience

  • a passion for helping other teachers build their knowledge and confidence in all subject areas

  • an interest in developing resources to help teachers and leaders navigate ongoing policy and curriculum changes

  • the ability to create resources that demonstrate a high standard of spelling, punctuation, grammar, curriculum relevance and factual accuracy

  • excellent communication skills

  • creativity and initiative

  • the ability to operate fluently between a range of different IT platforms

  • Essential for remote working - you will need access to a fast and reliable internet connection of at least 6mb download and 1mb upload. We recommend you use speedtest.net to check.

If you require reasonable adjustments to the application/selection process to enable you to demonstrate your ability to perform the job requirements, please include this at the foot of your covering letter.
