Job Introduction

About Twinkl

We're here to help those who teach. It's what brings us to work every day. At Twinkl, we’ve been providing educators across the world with high-quality, trusted teaching and learning resources for over a decade now. They’re all written and checked by our wonderful team of experienced educators, and there are hundreds of thousands of resources to download, with new ones added daily.

About the role

We’re looking for a highly motivated, experienced Press Officer to join our expanding Corporate Communications team. This newly created role will be pivotal in raising Twinkl’s external profile – especially in education, parenting, and inclusion spaces – by proactively securing high-quality media coverage, enhancing CEO and leader visibility, and communicating the impact of our thought leaders and partnership activity.

Reporting to the Director of Communications, the Press Officer will develop and deliver media strategies aligned to our organisational priorities, working closely with leaders and stakeholders from across the business to tell our story to new and existing audiences. You’ll be our first dedicated media relations specialist, so this is a rare opportunity to help build a function from the ground up, with a strong emphasis on cultivating relationships with journalists covering education policy, practice, SEN and inclusion, parents, and business press.

Ongoing projects / how you’ll spend your day:

Thought leadership & expert visibility

  • Proactively identify and pitch thought leadership opportunities for Twinkl’s internal experts and senior leaders.

  • Develop media-appropriate angles, commentary, and insights on education, curriculum, parents, learning support, and inclusion.

CEO & leadership positioning

  • Support the profile of our CEO and other leaders through targeted media interviews, editorial features, and authored content.

  • Draft LinkedIn content and media quotes for leaders.

Business and partnership communications

  • Shape and share stories that enhance Twinkl’s reputation and support our strategic business goals.

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify initiatives, launches, or campaigns that warrant external promotion.

  • Develop and execute media plans for high-profile partnerships.

  • Ensure media activity reflects and reinforces our purpose: to help those who teach.

Although part of a wider, established communications team, this is a new position and will be Twinkl’s first dedicated Press Officer role. This means you’ll have a unique opportunity to help us build a high-performing external comms capability.

The role will be varied and exciting, and will provide a genuine opportunity to really make an impact in delivering our mission.

About you

  • Have 3 years’ experience in a media relations role – ideally with experience in the education sector.

  • Be self-driven, with the curiosity to explore and uncover stories from across the business, and the instinct to know what will resonate externally.

  • Feel comfortable working directly with senior leaders and subject matter experts, occasionally to tight deadlines.

  • Be calm under pressure, adaptable, and able to manage multiple stories, priorities, and stakeholders at once.

  • Communicate clearly, concisely, and persuasively – whether pitching to a journalist, briefing a senior leader, or writing a press release.

  • Understand how to tailor content effectively for different media and audiences.

In this role, you will learn:

  • How to help shape Twinkl’s external reputation at a pivotal stage in its growth and influence.

  • Build specialist knowledge in key areas of UK and global education, including inclusion and family learning.

  • How to integrate PR into broader comms strategies and campaigns, from internal comms to partnerships and reputation management.

You’ll work with:

  • A supportive and collaborative communications team where ideas are valued and learning is encouraged.

  • Senior leaders – including our C-suite team.

  • Subject matter experts from across the business.

We're interested in anyone who meets one, or a combination of, the following:

  • Proven experience in media relations or journalism, ideally within education, parenting, or social impact sectors.

  • Existing relationships with UK media contacts – especially education, parenting, or inclusion journalists.

  • Track record of pitching and securing earned media in a range of outlets (national, regional, consumer, and trade).

  • Excellent written communication, with the ability to draft press releases, opinion pieces, and LinkedIn copy for senior leaders.

  • Confident working independently and setting up new processes, while also contributing as part of a team.

  • A strong understanding of reputational dynamics, sensitivity when handling issues, and experience with reactive comms.

  • Ability to translate complex policy, research, or educational topics into accessible, engaging narratives.

Essential for remote working: you will need access to a fast and reliable internet connection of at least 6mb down and 1mb upload. We recommend you use speedtest.net to check.

In return for everything you bring, we can offer you an exciting role in a fast-growing and dynamic business, with plenty of career opportunities.

Some of the things that make Twinkl a great place to be:

  • A friendly, welcoming, and supportive culture. We believe work should be fun and always put people before process.

  • Diversity, inclusion and belonging – our Employee Network Program includes working groups for LGBTQ+, People of Colour, Disabilities (visible and invisible), Women in Tech, and Working Parents.

  • From day 1 – Westfield Health, 33 annual leave days per year plus an additional day after two years’ service (capped at 38), flexible working policy with opportunities to work from home, and a Twinkl subscription.

  • Seasonal events.

  • Referral scheme.

  • Cervical and prostate screening.

  • Company sick pay after 3 months of service.

  • After probation – cycle to work scheme.

  • Long-term service reward – life insurance, enhanced pension contribution, enhanced maternity pay, enhanced adoption pay, and enhanced paternity pay.

If you require a reasonable adjustment to the application or selection process to enable you to demonstrate your ability to perform the job requirements, please include this at the foot of your covering letter. This will help us understand any modifications we may need to make to support you throughout our selection process.
